I have lived in Colorado since then except for a two year postdoc position at Los Alamos National Lab in New Mexico. Outside of chemistry, I enjoy hiking and running in the mountains, spending time with my husband and our pets, gardening, and cooking. I became interested in computational chemistry because it is a versatile field that uses quantum mechanical methods to investigate both fundamental scientific questions and practical applications. Through research I hope to continue developing these skills and pursue a Ph.D. in physical chemistry. My name is Nick and I am a undergraduate Chemistry major. I became interested in computational chemistry as it provides an avenue to explore the fundamental (quantum mechanical) reasons as to why reactions occur. Outside of chemistry I enjoy backpacking, working on cars, and skiing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 15%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nathan Maruska<\/strong> (Chemistry undergraduate student)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My name is Nathan Maruska. I grew up in Colorado with a love for science, mainly in meteorology. I later found a love for chemistry leading up to college. This new passion placed me in organic chemistry research with Dr. Schoffstall. Curiosity about what chemical reactions looked like at the molecular level and a drive to uncover new mysteries lead me from organic chemistry into Dr. Morgenstern\u2019s computational chemistry research lab. In this lab, I pursue many of my interests such as movies of chemical reactions, coding, creating colorful figures, and exploring vast amounts of new data. I am a Biochemistry major from Colorado Springs and joined the lab in Spring 2024. I have worked with Jen Burrows on computational modeling of TbGSK-3 with different ligands and cluster sizes to inform ligand design. I am currently working with Hunter Redmon on QTAIM and vibrational motions relevant to ring opening reactions.
