Mission
The mission of the Center for Plasmonics, Nanophotonics and Metamaterials (CPNM) is to foster education of 21st century scientist and engineers through an active learning process involving research in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. The CPNM promotes innovation in the area of Plasmonics, Nanophotonics, and Metamaterials and provides a common collaborative framework for education, research and development. The CPNM is housed by the UCCS Physics Department. The CPNM focuses its activities on fundamental and applied research in the area of Photonics, Plasmonics, and Metamaterials.
Director
The CPNM Center is headed by Dr. Anatoliy Pinchuk.
Anatoliy Pinchuk received his M.S. in Physics from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine in 1995 and his PhD in Physics and Mathematics in 2000 from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. In 2001, he was a visitor scientist at the Technical University of Aachen (RWTH), Germany, with Professor Dr. Ubbo Felderhof and with Professor Dr. Uwe Kreibig.
In 2002 he received Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellowship and spent two years at Technical University of Aachen (RWTH), Germany, in the laboratory of Professor Uwe Kreibig. His research in Kribig’s group focused on experimental fabrication of silver nanoparticles and theoretical study of their surface and interface properties. He then completed postdoctoral work at the Chemistry Department, Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, under the direction of Professor George Schatz from 2004 till 2008. His research in Schatz’s group was devoted to theoretical simulations of optical properties of plasmonic nanostructures.
He joined the Physics and Energy Science Department at UCCS in 2008 as an Assistant Professor of Physics. His research interests range from plasmonics and nanooptics to metamaterials. In 2013 he was promoted to Associate Professor of Physics.
Facilities
The CPNM Center is hosted within the Physics Department and the main operation facility of the Center is the Nanofabrication and Nanocharacterization Laboratory, Osborne B113. The Nanofabrication and Nanocharacterization Laboratory is equipped with all necessary instrumentation for successful operation of the Center, such as Scanning Electron Microscope, Dynamic Light Scattering, Fluorescence spectrometer, Near Field Optical Microscope, etc.
